Montreal, November 12, 2015 — TECSYS Healthcare and Mercy announce a collaborative development partnership focused on improving perioperative inventory management in context of patient-centric clinical performance. This co-development initiative will accelerate quality outcomes across three key operating paths—clinical, operational, and financial—in order to position Mercy as the benchmark for perioperative supply chain performance.
Representing both the primary source of revenue and the highest-dispensing cost center of most hospitals and health systems, perioperative departments are highly demanding and intricate networks of personnel, patients and products; legacy supply chain management practices do not support the complex supply chain activities needed to deliver efficient care in this unique, fast-paced clinical delivery area.
Steering Mercy’s effort to effect performance improvements in perioperative areas is Betty Jo Rocchio (RN,BSN,CRNA,MS), Vice President, Perioperative Performance Acceleration. Rocchio’s initial focus has been on pursuing the Triple Aim for areas in her charge. To this end, Rocchio engaged with cross-functional teams and utilized a six sigma approach to assess people and process elements for performance enhancements in the Mercy perioperative areas.
"The perioperative supply chain represents a prime opportunity to demonstrably improve the lives of patients and clinicians alike all while lowering the cost of doing business," explains Rocchio. "The very nature of this new tapestry of health systems demands we leverage software and automation in order to tip the balance away from administrative and support tasks, and back towards caregiving."
Following identification of the perioperative department as a suitable focus for a Triple Aim initiative, Rocchio has been developing a portfolio of projects aimed at system-level improvements to key operating paths, including clinical, operational and financial, to help Mercy continue its leadership position in a fast-evolving healthcare ecosystem. Continues Rocchio, "The missing piece of the puzzle is a truly consolidated software platform that marries the clinical with the back office, eliminating those performance gaps that exist when one system ends and the next one picks up where that one left off. What we need to do now is co-create a user-driven means to connect the seemingly disconnected."
Advancing this initiative further required a technology partner to support Rocchio’s and Mercy’s evolving need for a more robust end-to-end inventory management solution. Citing TECSYS Healthcare’s experience in a clinical supply chain environment and building on a long-standing relationship with ROi (Resource Optimization & Innovation), Mercy’s supply chain organization, Rocchio believes "together, our organizations have a razor-sharp understanding of what it means to bring a clinically-driven methodology to perioperative supply chain operations.”"
Nancy Pakieser, Sr. Director TECSYS Healthcare, comments on the deliverables of the partnership:"Creating a solution driven by clinical need, where clinical workflows are at the nucleus of innovation, should be the cardinal principle guiding any supply chain initiative. Both financial and operational performance hinges wholly on its capacity to translate into patient outcomes. We believe that user-driven co-development elevates what we deliver to the market; to that end, TECSYS Healthcare is privileged by this partnership, and we are keen on dovetailing a well-balanced perioperative inventory management environment."
